Ein Jahr lang portraitierte Justin Muir Bärte um sein Book of Beards zu komplettieren. Die Idee basiert auf einem Blogpost aus dem April 2011 in dem Muir schon einmal 10 Männer mit haarigem Gesicht ablichtete. Anscheinend erwuchs daraus eine solche Faszination, dass der nächste Schritt ein ganzes Buch war.

Das Book of Beards umfasst 125 Seiten auf denen 86 Männer bzw. 86 Bärte gezeigt werden. Tolle Bilder und wirklich eindrucksvolle Bärte! Das gute Stück kann man für 45$ auf bookofbeards.com erwerben.

Weil ich seine Arbeit so großartig und eindrucksvoll fand, meldete ich mich bei Justin Muir via Facebook und stellte ihm ein paar Fragen. Glücklicherweise war Muir sogar bereit diese zu beantworten ;). Et voilà (und bitte entschuldigt mein ausbaufähiges Englisch ;) )

Lars: When did you start with your photography and what was your motivation behind it?

Justin: I started photography about 3 years ago. I had always been in the art field and it seemed like another outlet for creativity. I fell in love with it imedietly

L: What was your first camera?

J: My first camera was a really old Canon Rebel. 6 mega pixel. I think my phone is 8 mega pixel now. weird.

L: What are your selection criteria if you search for models.

J: For models, it depends on the look and feel I am going for. I do prefer to shoot every day people rather than just models. I think that is why the beard portraits are so appealing,. they are just normal guys.

L: Is there any special person you would like to photograph in the future (and why)?

J: I have always wanted to shoot comedians like, john stewart, will ferrel, or conan obrien, but in a very serious manner. Similar to the beard portraits or this shothttp://www.flickr.com/photos/whatladder/7797955198/
I’m sure its been done before, but its a juxtaposition I find interesting.

L: What (or who) influences you in your work?

J: The Internet :) . ha. There is so much good artwork out there in every medium. It’s a constant reminder of how much talent is out there and pushes me to get better at what I do. So thanks internet!
